On May 7, 1946, Britain and France withdrew from Syria. On May 7, 1946, Britain and France notified the United Nations that they had withdrawn from Syria 15 days earlier than originally planned. Thus, the situation for the satisfactory withdrawal of the Lebanese government arose. The Lebanese had been assured that, with the exception of a few shutter troops, Britain would withdraw their troops before the end of June, France by August 31. The withdrawal order was made according to the resolution of the members of the United Nations Security Council following the official protest of the two Middle East countries. The Soviet Union rejected this resolution because they thought the resolution was not strong enough.
