The Republic of Bulgaria is a country on the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. It borders Romania, Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey and is located on the east bank of the Black Sea. The country has an area of 110910 square kilometers, ranked 103rd in the world. The total population of 797,4 million. On February 27, 1990, the 3rd of March was declared as the National Day for the Remembrance of the Ottoman Empire, and on November 15, the same year, the country was renamed the Republic of Bulgaria. On May 11, 2005, the Bulgarian Parliament voted to approve Bulgaria's accession to the European Union Treaty.
