Pedro de Baldovie was the Spanish conqueror and also the first Royal Governor of Chile. He was deployed in Italy and Flanders during his Spanish army service, was promoted to Lieutenant of the Army in 1534 and was sent to the South American region, serving as the second commander of Francisco Pizarro in Peru. In 1540, he led 150 Spanish expeditions to Chile, established Santiago de Chile the following year after defeating the Indian forces, and in 1546 expanded the Spanish rule to the south of the Rio Biobio.
