Today, 44 years ago, on March 3, 1981 (Calendar, January 27, 1981), the State Council approved the ¡°High City¡± as ¡°Dalian City¡±. In the 19th century, there was still a small fishing village called the Blue Melt. A hundred years ago, the Russians built the city and named it the ¡°Darini¡± Special City, meaning a distant city, a place far from Moscow and St. Petersburg. During the Dalian War and the Japanese War, the Dalian region was the main battlefield, and was occupied by Russian-Japanese imperialists for fifty years.
