Today, 81 years ago, on 22 January 1944 (Lunar Calendar 27 December 1943), the Allied forces landed in Anzio during the Second World War. The Allied parachute forces landed on Anzio Beach on 22 January 1944, and two divisions of the U.S. forces landed in Anzio Fort, 60 miles behind the enemy front, giving the German forces a sudden attack in Italy. They did not encounter much resistance in the attack. Because the German troops were withdrawing to the south, in order to consolidate the defenses near Monte Cassino. A large amount of material was shipped to the Anzio landing forces.
