The birth of Scottish geologist John W. Gugliel

John Walter Gugliel (27 January 1864 – 2 June 1932) was an outstanding Scottish geologist who taught at the University of Melbourne in 1899, and was the first professor at the University of Melbourne at that time. He served as director of the Victoria Geometry Center from 1901 to 1904. He served as chairman of the University of Glasgow in the UK in 1904. After 1904, he began exploring and recording the world’s unique geographical landscapes, including Beneficence, Angola, India, the Great Valley of East Africa and Tibet in China. In addition, he also travelled to the Norwegian Spitzbergen Island: Spitzbergen, Australia (he had formed an expedition team called Dead Haert to explore the Australian Continent) and the Himalayas.
