January 25, 1787 The U.S. Sheriff's Uprising Failed
Today, 238 years ago, on January 25, 1787 (December 7, 1786) the U.S. Shesh rebellion failed. The Shesh rebellion was a peasant uprising in Massachusetts in 1786–1787. The leader of the uprising was Daniel Shays (Daniel Shays, 1747–1825), a former U.S. War of Independence officer. The uprising was caused by the Massachusetts government’s contempt for the peasants, as well as the election of heads, etc. On August 29, 1786, the uprising attacked several courts to prevent court trials and imprisonment of debtors. In September, 600 uprising officers attacked the Springfield Court, and Governor James Bowden sent 4400 civilians to repress the countryside. On January 25, 1787, 2,000 rebels were forced to
