Today, 410 years ago, on March 13, 1615 (February 14, 1615), Pope Innocent XII was born. Pope Innocent XII (March 13, 1615 – September 27, 1700), the Italian pope (March 1691 – 1700), originally named Antonio Pignatelli. In 1693, King Louis XIV of France accepted his advice and announced the abolition of the Gaulous provisions issued in 1682 to oppose the predecessor Pope Innocent XI, thus resolving the impasse between Louis and the Pontifical. At the same time, Innocent recognized that the king had the power to govern the vacant diocese.
