International Labour Day, also known as the "Five-Year-Old Day", is celebrated on May 1st of each year and is a common holiday for the proletariat and the working people around the world. On May 1, 1886, more than twenty-six thousand workers in Chicago went on a major strike for the eight-hour system, and after a hard, bloodshed struggle they finally won the victory. To commemorate this great workers’ movement, the Second International of July 1889 declared May 1, every year as International Labour Day. This decision was immediately responded positively by workers from all over the world. On May 1, 1890, the working class of Europe and the United States took the lead to the streets, holding large demonstrations and rallies to fight for legitimate rights and interests. Since then, every day the working people of all countries of the world have gathered and marched to celebrate. The activities of the Chinese people's Labor Day can be traced back to 1918. It is the year, some revolutionary intellectuals in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Hangzhou and other places spread to the masses the introduction of the "Five-Year-Old Day" pamphlets. On May 1, 1920, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Tangshan and other industrial cities workers masses wandered to the streets, held massive parades and gatherings, this was the first Five-Year-Old Labor Day in the history of China. After the liberation, the Central People's Government Office in December 1949 established May 1 as the lawful Labor Day, is a holiday day in Japan.
