April 12, 1996 Japanese Mazda merged with American Ford Motor Company.
Mazda Motor Company was founded in 1920, first known as Fukushima Softwood Industry Co., Ltd., and in 1929 was renamed "Eastern Industrial Co., Ltd.," which involved the expansion of the field to machine tool manufacturing.
