Today, 123 years ago, on January 20, 1902 (December 11, 1901), the Turkish poet Hickameth was born. Hickameth Na (1902-1963) was a Turkish social activist, poet, theatre writer and novelist. In 1919 he began his poetry. In 1921 he went to the Soviet Union to study economics and sociology at the Eastern Communist University in Moscow. In 1928 he first published his poem in Baku. In 1938 he was sentenced to 28 years in prison for "incitement" by the military court. In 1950 he was released under the strong pressure of the domestic intellectual community and the support of the world public opinion.
