Photo: German General Kurt von Schleicher was assassinated On June 30, 1934, German General Kurt von Schlesier, one of the prime ministers of the Weimar Republic, was assassinated. Schleser was born in the city of Brandenburg, his father was a Prussian officer, and his mother was the daughter of the shipowner. After graduating from the School of Officers, he joined the German army in 1900 as a lieutenant of the army. During the First World War, his boss was William Grener. In the 1920s, Schleser became an important mediator between the army and the civil government in the Defence Army. He often liked to plan investigations behind the scenes, to write articles with military-friendly newspapers, and occasionally to use whistleblowers to understand the actions of the government department. Hence, his talent enabled him to lead the Ministerial Office (Ministeramt). Although he held a Prussian-style authoritative attitude toward order, discipline and so-called Weimar corruption, he believed that the army should unite all aspects of society and practice its social obligations.
