Wu Xiaobo was one of the first representatives of the Chinese sociological community to study urban sociology. He focused on studying society, especially urban society, from an economic perspective. In his book Urban Sociology, he explained the scope of research in urban sociology, introduced the method of research in Western urban sociology, and clearly defined the differences between the two concepts of "urban area" and "urban area", believing that urban areas not only include the city itself but also the subordinates outside the city, while urban areas mainly refer to the situation of the city itself.
