Forty-seven years ago today, on February 24th, 1978 (January 18th, 1978 in the lunar calendar), the border conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia ended. On February 24, 1978, the border conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia ended. Both Ethiopia and Somalia have invested a large number of troops, and Ethiopia has invited Cuban advisers to participate in the war. Somali troops had earlier captured the disputed border area, but later suffered a miserable defeat on the Somali side as Cuban-trained Ethiopians counteroffensive. By early 1978, Somalia admitted that it had lost about 40,000 people in the war. On February 24th, Somali troops had to withdraw to the original border, and the war ended.
