135 years ago today, on August 9, 1890 (June 24, 1890 in the lunar calendar), Hou Debang, a Chinese chemical expert, was born. On August 9, 1890, Hou Debang was born in Minhou County, Fujian Province. His name is Qirong and his courtesy name is Zhiben. He is a famous chemist and the founder of Hou's alkali production method. Since childhood, he has been half-cultivating and half-reading, diligent and studious, and has the reputation of "studying by trailer". I was admitted to Beiping Tsinghua Preparatory School for Studying in the United States with a good score of 1000 points in 10 subjects! Hou Debang made three major contributions to chemical technology in his life: first, he uncovered the secret of Solvay's alkali-making process. Second, he founded the Chinese people's own alkali-making process-Hou's alkali-making process. Third, he contributed to the development of small fertilizer industry. In 1953, he joined the National Construction Association of the Chinese * and was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the First and Second Central Committee successively. Since 1954, he has been elected as a deputy to the First, Second and Third National People's Congress. Since 1955, he has been employed as a member of the Department of Technical Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1957, served as Vice Minister of Chemical Industry in 1958, and was elected as Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology. Died of illness in Beijing on August 26, 1974. He was 84 years old. Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, Ye Jianying, Guo Moruo and other leading comrades sent wreaths, and Nie Rongzhen attended the memorial service on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.
