Forty-two years ago today, on January 15, 1983 (December 2, 1982 in the lunar calendar), China's first 120-channel submarine cable communication project was completed. China's first 120-channel submarine cable communication project, Zhoushan Submarine Cable Communication Project, was officially put into use on January 15, 1983. The project includes the laying of 13 submarine cables with a total length of more than 55 kilometers, 7 telecom integrated equipment rooms and other supporting facilities. Among them are 120 submarine cables and carrier systems designed, manufactured and used for the first time by China itself. The completion of this project has improved the communication between Zhoushan and the mainland, and has also accumulated valuable experience for the construction of submarine cable projects in China.
