David Ben-Gurion (born 16 October 1886 in Poland, died 1 December 1973 in Tel-Haymo) was an Israeli politician, the first prime minister, who served from 1948 to 1953 and 1955 to 1963. He was a fierce Zionist in his youth, and in 1906 he came to Palestine. First he worked as a journalist, and at the beginning of his political career he changed the Jewish name to Ben-Gurion. In 1921 he organized the General Union of Israel.
