On September 15, 1953, the United Nations General Assembly vetoed China's accession. On September 15, 1953, the United States and its Western allies vetoed the proposal put forward by the Soviet Union on the first day of the Eighth General Assembly of the United Nations to allow China to represent China in the United Nations.
