109 years ago today, on June 7th, 1916 (May 7th, 1916 in the lunar calendar), the independent provinces cancelled their independence and obeyed the central orders. On June 7, 1916, Liang Qichao called the independent provinces, saying, "Clean up the north, but the section depends on Lai, and the southern province seems appropriate to give assistance, so as not to be lonely, and not to be prejudiced by me, which will cause ill feelings." On the 9th, Cai E also telegraphed the whole country, saying, "Looking at all the sages in the center, but the governors of independent provinces without independence, get rid of prejudices, on the premise of benefiting the country and the people." On the 8th, Chen Huan, the governor of Sichuan, announced the whole country: "In accordance with the announcement at the time of independence, independence will be cancelled on the same day. Since then, all matters in Sichuan Province will obey the orders of the central authorities". On the 9th, when Long Jiguang, the governor of Guangdong Province, held a meeting to celebrate Duan Qirui's "general adherence to the country", he also announced that he would "cancel independence on the same day and obey the orders of the central authorities". On the 11th, Hunan Tang Xiangming was the last to announce the cancellation of independence.
