Thirty-nine years ago today, on April 15, 1986 (March 7, 1986 in the lunar calendar), the United States launched a large-scale air strike against Libya. Shells pierced the sky, and the explosion was deafening (big picture). The small picture shows Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi sitting beside the ruins after the bombing. On April 15th, 1986, the United States launched a large-scale air strike against Tripoli, the capital of Libya, and Benghazi, the second largest city, causing hundreds of residents' casualties; Libya announced that it had shot down three American planes and bombarded the US radar station on the Italian island of Lampedusa with gunboats. At night, the artillery fire still didn't subside, and the shells pierced the sky, and the explosion was deafening. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was injured in the air strike, and one of his adopted daughters was killed in the air strike. American planes taking off from British bases bombed the Libyan cities of Tripoli and Benghazi. Because France and Spain refused to open their airspace for American planes, American planes were able to complete the bombing mission by refueling in the air, which was the first time in the history of world wars. This air strike was obviously a response to the alleged involvement of Libya in the bombing of a nightclub in Berlin.
