Image of Khaleda Zia On March 19, 1991, Acting President of Bangladesh, Habuddin Ahmed, appointed Khaleda Zia as the country's Prime Minister. Ka Zia became the ninth prime minister of the South Asian country. At the same time, she is also the first female prime minister in Bangladesh's history. Mrs. Ka Zia is the widow of former President Zia Rahman. She was born on August 15th, 1945 in Dinajpur County. Entered Surendranath College in 1960 and married Captain Zia Rahman while in school. Zia Rahman took part in the independence struggle of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and served as the first president after independence. In May 1981, Zia Rahman was assassinated during a mutiny in Chittagong City. Kazia was originally happy to keep the house and didn't care much about political affairs. Even officials close to Rahman thought she was just a "frugal and unknown housewife". It was only after her husband's death that she ventured into politics and began an extraordinary life of hardship and hardship as a female politician. Her image with a sand towel on her head and a smiling face often appears among the people and wins the support of the people. In 1983, she joined the Nationalist Party and became the first vice-chairman. The following year, she became president of the party. Shortly after Zia Rahman's death, then Army Chief Ershad seized power by overthrowing the government under the Nationalist Party founded by Zia in a bloodless coup. The Nationalist Party became the opposition party. Kazia had always suspected that the mutiny in which her husband was killed was orchestrated by Ershad himself. She is determined to work hand in hand with other opposition leaders to overthrow the "abusive and corrupt Ershad government" at all costs. During the 10 years before Kazia became Prime Minister, she was arrested and charged several times, and her family was often threatened and beaten. But she still risked her life to lobby and organize rallies everywhere. In 1990, when Ershad's government declared a national emergency, she went underground to persist in the struggle. Because of Kazia's pivotal role and the support of thousands of people, Ershad was forced to announce his resignation. In the national election held in February 1991, the Nationalist Party led by Kazia defeated the crowd and won 139 seats in the 300-seat parliament, becoming the first political party in the parliament, thus ending the party's 10-year opposition career. As the chairman of the party, she won the right to form a cabinet. After accepting the appointment of the Prime Minister, Kazia said that he would continue to finish his husband's unfinished business and strive to build a clean government "free of corruption". The first task of the new government is to meet the basic living requirements of the people and establish a peaceful environment conducive to the national economy and people's livelihood for the broad masses of people. Ka Zia has never held an important position in government before. At that time, Bangladesh's industrial development was slow, the unemployed ranks were constantly expanding, and its financial management was seriously chaotic. Coupled with the impact of the Gulf crisis, the new government faced a severe test. However, the day after accepting her appointment, Ka Zia was resolutely sworn in as the second female prime minister of the Islamic country after Benazir Bhutto. Mrs. Zia visited our country with President Zia Rahman in 1980. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1bx8.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.28-07:38] 访问:95
