On February 2, 1948, the "Shenjiu Massacre" occurred in Shanghai.
Seventy-seven years ago today, on February 2, 1948 (December 23, 1947 in the lunar calendar), the "Shenjiu Massacre" occurred in Shanghai. At the end of January 1948, more than 7,000 workers at Shanghai Shenxin No.9 Cotton Textile Factory went on strike under the leadership of the Shanghai underground organization of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Workers proposed to improve their treatment and reissue their rations. According to the living index, there are seven conditions, such as annual salary and repayment of withheld salary. On February 2, the Kuomintang government dispatched thousands of military police and secret agents to suppress it. The workers fought hard and defended themselves. The military and police used armored vehicles and tear gas to rush into the factory to suppress the strike. Three people were killed, more than 500 people were injured, more than 400 people were arrested and more than 800 people were fired. After the tragedy, Shanghai workers set up the "Shenjiu Massacre Support Association" one after another and carried out large-scale solidarity protests. Under the pressure of the people, the Kuomintang government was forced to release a large number of arrested workers and resume some workers' jobs.
