On January 12, 2000 (December 6, 1999 in the lunar calendar), the China government sent civilian police for the first time to carry out a United Nations peacekeeping mission. China civil police participating in peacekeeping in East Timor On October 25, 1999, the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution, deciding to establish the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor to manage East Timor affairs before East Timor independence. At the request of the United Nations, in January 2000, the China government decided to send 15 civilian police officers to the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor. This was the first time that the China government had sent civilian police officers to carry out United Nations peacekeeping missions. Since then, China has sent five batches of peacekeeping police officers to East Timor to carry out peacekeeping missions.
