On this day, 76 years ago, on May 15, 1949 (April 18, 1949, the lunar calendar), Zhang Zhen led his troops to uprising and peacefully liberate Wuhan. The Fourth Field Army liberated Wuhan, and the people of Wuhan celebrated the liberation On May 15, 1949, Zhang Zhen, deputy commander-in-chief of the Kuomintang Central China Suppression Command and commander of the Fifth Pacification District, led his troops to hold an uprising near Wuhan. When the defeat of the Kuomintang was a foregone conclusion, Zhang Zhen decided to lead an uprising. He organized the 128th Army and the 127th Army as the backbone of the uprising, carried out propaganda and liaison work for the uprising among senior officers, and established contact with the Communist Party of China. Zhang Zhen originally planned to uprising in Xinyang, Henan Province, but the plan fell through when Bai Chongxi moved his troops south of Wuhan. On May 14, due to leaks, Zhang Zhen was detained by Bai Chongxi in Wuchang. After escaping, an officer meeting was held at the headquarters of the 128th Army and decided to uprising immediately and sent people to cross the river to welcome the People's Liberation Army into Wuhan. On May 15, Zhang Zhen led five divisions of more than 20,000 people to declare an uprising, intercepted Bai Chongxi's retreating troops in the northwest area of Hesheng Bridge, and captured some of the men and guns.
