The full name of UNESCO is the "United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization". It is one of the specialized agencies of the United Nations. It was established on November 16, 1945 and is headquartered in Paris. Its purpose is to promote cooperation in education, science and culture among countries. Contribute to peace and security, so that the people of the world as recognized in the United Nations Charter, regardless of race, gender, language, or religion, can enjoy more universal respect for justice, law, human rights and fundamental freedoms. The organization has regional offices, regional centers or regional advisers in education, science, and cultural exchanges around the world. By the end of the 1980s, the organization had 158 member states and 2 associate members. China is one of the founding members of UNESCO. On October 29, 1971, the Executive Board of the organization passed a resolution recognizing the legitimate seat of the government of the People's Republic of China. It was the first specialized agency after the United Nations General Assembly to pass a resolution to expel the Chiang Kai-shek Group. Since 1972, my country has resumed its activities in this organization. On February 19, 1979, the National Commission for UNESCO of the People's Republic of China was officially established and held its first meeting. The National Commission for UNESCO of China is composed of the Ministry of Education, the State Science and Technology Commission, the Ministry of Culture, China Academy of Sciences, China Academy of Social Sciences, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and other relevant units in education, science, culture. It has a total of 25 members, Li Qi serves as director and Yang Yunyu serves as secretary-general. The first committee meeting discussed how to strengthen cooperation between my country and UNESCO, and believed that national committees should actively participate in UNESCO activities in the fields of education, science, culture and exchanges, as well as regional activities. The main tasks of the National Commission for UNESCO of China are to provide information and advice on UNESCO to the Chinese government, relevant departments and delegations attending the UNESCO Conference, to coordinate the work of relevant departments in my country involving UNESCO, and to liaise with the organization's secretariat and national commissions of member states.
