On April 27, 1978, tanks and MiG-21 fighter jets bombarded the presidential palace in Kabul, Afghanistan. On April 30, Afghanistan's President Mohammad Daoud was killed by rebel forces. Mohammed Daoud's government was overthrown by a military coup. Rebel forces have occupied the presidential palace in the capital Kabul. The army established a new government, a committee led by Abdul Qadir appointed Nur Mohammed Taraki as prime minister, banned all public gatherings and declared indefinite military control.
