April 16, 1867: American aircraft designer Wilber Wright was born
On this day, 158 years ago, April 16, 1867 (March 12, 1867 in the lunar calendar), American aircraft designer Wilbur Wright was born. Wilber Wright (April 16, 1867-May 12, 1912) Orville Wright (August 19, 1871-January 30, 1948) Wilber was born in Millville, Indiana in 1867. Orville was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1871. Both brothers received a secondary education but did not receive a diploma. The Wright brothers grew up in Dayton and opened a bicycle repair, design and manufacturing company there in 1892 to fund their growing interest in flying. Based on the research results of their predecessors, they began their mechanical aviation tests in 1899. Compared with others, the Wright brothers are more focused on strengthening aircraft control technology, rather than pursuing power improvements to achieve the purpose of lifting aircraft into space. They developed three-axis control and established some control principles that are still in use today. The Wright brothers 'early research was based on the aeronautical literature of the time, including Lilienthal's table. However, they soon discovered that the Smitten coefficient (a variable in the lifting and dragging formula) was wrong. With the help of a wind tunnel built by their employee Charlie Taylor, they tested more than two hundred different shapes of wings and eventually developed their own table of the relationship between wing shape and air pressure. Their experience and results in bicycles, gears, bicycle engines and balance (while riding a bicycle) will be crucial to their future success in building mechanical aircraft. It is worth noting that throughout the entire research project, the two brothers always worked together, so their contribution was inseparable. A century of aviation talks about aerospace. The picture shows the Wright brothers, the ancestors of aviation, talking about aerospace in the century of aviation. The picture shows the Wright brothers flying 100 years ago.
