On April 25, 2001 (April 3, 2001 in the lunar calendar), the National Astronomical Observatory was established in Beijing. With the approval of relevant departments, the National Astronomical Observatory was established in Beijing on April 25, 2001, marking that the development of astronomy in my country has entered a new milestone. The National Astronomical Observatory is formed by the integration of eight astronomical observatories, stations and four astronomy and astrophysics centers jointly built by colleges and universities across the country. Its main tasks are: coordinating the development and layout of my country's astronomy disciplines, the operation of large and medium-sized observation equipment, and undertaking national-level scientific engineering construction projects; responsible for macro coordination and guidance of scientific research work; optimizing resource and talent allocation; It is combined with colleges and universities to form a number of research centers, giving full play to the advantages of astronomical observation, research and interdisciplinary integration. The establishment of the National Astronomical Observatory is an important part of implementing the instructions of the Party Central Committee and the State Council on the Chinese Academy of Sciences to carry out pilot knowledge innovation projects. It is the result of significant progress made in the reform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences 'Astronomical Entrance during the three-year knowledge innovation project. It is a major initiative to realize the second venture of astronomy in my country. "Basic research must have a global perspective and scientific strategic thinking. We must not be satisfied with being the leader at home. We must win glory internationally, work hard at the international forefront, and achieve world-class results. At the establishment ceremony, Lu Yongxiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, placed high hopes on the National Astronomical Observatory. It is reported that as the preparatory unit of the National Astronomical Observatory, in March 1999, the Chinese Academy of Sciences established the National Astronomical Observation Center based on various astronomical stations. In the two years since its establishment, the center has selected nine major areas as its main goals, and has focused on the evolution of the universe and stars, solar magnetic activity and the solar-terrestrial space environment, precise orbit determination of artificial satellites and space geodynamics, and space astronomy as its four major priorities, achieving preliminary results. It is reported that the Beijing Astronomical Observatory has been integrated into the National Astronomical Observatory, the Yunnan Astronomical Observatory, the Urumqi Astronomical Station, and the Changchun Satellite Observatory have been integrated into the Astronomical Observatory, and the Nanjing Astronomical Instrument Center has been transformed into a technology-based enterprise. The Purple Mountain Observatory and the Shanghai Observatory continue to retain their legal personality and are academically subject to macro coordination and guidance from the National Astronomical Observatory.
