China psychologist Sun Guohua was born on January 26, 1902 in Weixian County, Shandong Province. He has served as a professor of psychology at Tsinghua University, Peking University, Northeastern University, and Beijing Normal University, and concurrently served as the director of the Department of Psychology at Tsinghua University. He died in Beijing on July 8, 1958.
Sun Guohua (1902~1958) was also known as Xiao Meng. A native of Weixian County, Shandong Province. Born in Weixian County, Shandong Province on January 26, 1902, he graduated from Tsinghua School in Beijing in 1923. In the same year, he went to the United States and studied at Ohio State University. From 1925 to 1926, he studied in the Department of Physiology at the University of Chicago. Later, he received a Master of Psychology (1928) and a Doctor of Philosophy (1929) from the Ohio State University Graduate School. He returned to China at the end of 1928 and served as a professor of psychology at Tsinghua University, Peking University, Northeastern University, and Beijing Normal University, and concurrently served as the director of the Department of Psychology at Tsinghua University. From 1941 to 1946, he served as editor and director of the general affairs group of the former National Compilation and Translation Institute in Baisha, Sichuan. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served as professor and director of the Department of Psychology of Tsinghua University, director of psychology, deputy director of the Department and a school member of the Department of Philosophy of Peking University. He also served as a researcher at the Institute of Psychology of China Academy of Sciences, director of China Psychological Society, and executive editor of the Journal of Psychology. He died in Beijing on the evening of July 8, 1958.
He attaches great importance to the research of comparative psychology and specializes in child psychology.
In 1926, he published "Pupillary Reflex in Birds" in the American Journal of Physiology;
In 1930, he collaborated with K.C. Pratt and A.K. Nelson to jointly publish "Research on the Behavior of Newborn Babies", which is a long and important paper on child psychology. It was once printed in a single volume and listed in the Ohio State University series.
