Bayan Timur Bayan (1236-January 11, 1295) was a military strategist and politician in the early years of the Yuan Dynasty in China. Bayan was born in the eight neighboring tribes. His father Xiaogutai once followed Hulaewu to conquer Western Asia. Bayan grew up in the Ir Khanate and believed in Nestorianism. In the early years of the Yuan Dynasty, he was sent by Xu Liewu as an envoy to Dadu, and was appreciated and trusted by Yuan Shizu, so he stayed in the Yuan Dynasty as an official and married the sister of Prime Minister An Tong. In 1265, he became the left prime minister of Guanglu, a doctor. In 1274, the Yuan Dynasty launched a large-scale attack on the Southern Song Dynasty. Commander Shi Tianze was dismissed due to illness. Bayan followed him to become the general commander of the Song Dynasty. The progress was smooth. On February 4, 1276, the Song army surrendered and entered Lin 'an. The Yuan army captured Emperor Gong of Song and Empress Dowager Xie, as well as many imperial clans and ministers of the Southern Song Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty changed Lin' an into the Dudu of the Two Zhejiang Universities. Later, Bayan also commanded the army to be responsible for the war against the Haidu Khan of the Ogetai Khanate.
