Fifty years ago today, on April 5, 1975 (February 24, 1975 in the lunar calendar), Chiang Kai-shek died of illness. Chiang Kai-shek's Court On April 5, 1975, Chiang Kai-shek, President of the Kuomintang of China and "President of the Republic of China", died of illness at the Yangmingshan official residence on the outskirts of Taipei City. He was 88 years old. Chiang Kai-shek's legacy was originally named Ruiyuan, whose scientific name was Zhiqing, and later changed his name to Zhongzheng. He studied at Baoding Military Academy and studied at Zhenwu School in Japan. Joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party in 1914. In 1923, when the Kuomintang was preparing for reorganization, he served as a member of the Kuomintang Military Commission and chief of staff of the base camp. After that, he served as president of Whampoa Military Academy and commander of the First Army. After the Second Plenary Session of the Second Central Committee of the Kuomintang, Chiang Kai-shek gradually controlled the Kuomintang's power in all aspects of party, government, military, and finance, and served as commander-in-chief of the National Revolutionary Army. On April 12, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek took the lead in attacking the Communist Party. After that, he served as chairman of the Nanjing National Government, chairman of the Military Commission, and general chairman of the Central Political Council. He defeated local warlords and carried out five "encirclement and suppression" against the Red Army. During the Anti-Japanese War, he commanded the war of resistance on the frontal battlefield of China. During the civil war between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, the Kuomintang army was defeated under his command, and he had to lead the remnants of his troops to retreat to Taiwan. On March 1, 1950, Chiang Kai-shek was re-elected as the "President" of the "Republic of China". He was subsequently re-elected for the second to fifth terms as "President". After being elected "President" for the fifth time in 1972, Chiang Kai-shek and his wife were together with Vice "President" Yan Jiagan and his wife. Since March 1972, Chiang Kai-shek developed chronic prostatitis after prostate surgery, and his health has since deteriorated. In July of the same year, he turned to pneumonia due to a cold and was hospitalized for 16 months. In December 1974, pneumonia recurred again due to a cold. In January 1975, myocardial hypoxia developed. He was rescued from danger after first aid, but he had a fever from time to time due to pneumonia. On March 29, Chiang Kai-shek dictated his will at his official residence in Biye, Caoshan. On the afternoon of April 5, the urinary system failed and the heart function was poor. At 8:15 pm, the condition deteriorated and he died three hours later. Accompanied by Chiang Ching-kuo (left) and Chiang Wei-kuo (right), Soong Meiling sent a memorial to Chiang Kai-shek. Two hours after Chiang Kai-shek's death, the Taiwan Government Information Bureau issued a death communiqué, calling Chiang Kai-shek "dead" and ordering it to last one month from April 6 as the "national funeral" period for the "Republic of China". Chiang Kai-shek's coffin was temporarily housed in the "Cihu Travel Hall". Its body was embalmed, dressed in long robes and jackets, and wearing medals on his chest. It was placed in the black marble coffin corridor and parked in the main hall. The wing room remains the same as Chiang's bedroom before his death for people to visit.
