On this day, 64 years ago, on April 10, 1961 (February 25, 1961, the lunar calendar), Nh Dinh Diem won the general election in Vietnam by an overwhelming majority. On April 10, 1961, winning a decisive election, South Vietnam President Ngo Dinh Diem was re-elected Prime Minister with 78% of the vote. More than 90% of registered voters voted. The result resulted in a disastrous defeat for Communist Party agitators, who had asked voters not to participate in the election. Apart from a trivial isolated incident, there was no violence as expected by the Communist Party.
