In February 2000, Shiro Higashi visited Lugou Bridge. On January 3, 2005, Mr. Shiro Higashi, a former veteran of the Japanese invaders, died of illness in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan at the age of 95. Mr. Higashi Shiro was born in 1912. He was a soldier of the 20th Corps of the 16th Division of the Japanese Invaders. In 1937, he was called to participate in the War of Aggression against China and the Nanjing Massacre. After the war, due to the recovery of humanity, Toshiro was full of remorse for his injurious behavior, sincerely reflected on his guilt to the China people, and bravely delivered speeches at rallies across Japan to expose the atrocities of the Japanese Army's Nanjing Massacre. In 1987, Dong Shilang made public his wartime diary and made a special trip to Nanjing to reflect on the 50th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre to apologize.
