150 years ago today, January 2, 1875 (November 25, 1874, the lunar calendar) was the birthday of patriotic democrat Shen Junru. Shen Junru's head was Shen Junru, also known as Hengshan. He was a famous democratic revolutionist, jurist, and educator in modern China. He was born in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province on January 2, 1875. In his early years, he served as a scholar in Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. Later, he studied in Japan. After returning to China, he participated in the Revolutionary Movement of 1911 and the struggle against the Beiyang warlords. After the outbreak of the May 4th Movement, he actively participated in the New Culture Movement and advocated new culture and new morality. Mr. Shen Junru firmly opposed Chiang Kai-shek's policy of non-resistance and was arrested by the Kuomintang authorities during the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup. In 1935, he took the lead in responding to the call of the Communist Party of China to establish an anti-Japanese national united front, and made unremitting efforts to organize the Shanghai Cultural Salvation Association and the National Salvation Federation of All walks of life to promote the early victory of the Anti-Japanese War. At the critical juncture of the life and death of the nation, Mr. Shen Junru launched the Anti-Japanese and National Salvation Movement and organized the National Salvation Association. After the September 18th Incident, Japanese imperialism quickly occupied a large area of China's territory, but the Chiang Kai-shek clique intensified its anti-communist and anti-people civil war. In the face of severe national crisis, Shen Junru, Ma Xiangbo, Zou Taofen and other patriots in Shanghai cultural circles actively responded to the call of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China's "August 1 Declaration", launched a national salvation movement, and organized a Shanghai cultural salvation meeting. The Anti-Japanese and National Salvation Movement developed quickly. In only half a year, it spread widely in the Kuomintang ruled areas and penetrated into all classes. Finally, on May 31, 1936, the "National National Salvation Federation of All Forms of Life" was established in Shanghai. Subsequently, National Salvation Association organizations were established in Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing, Guangzhou and other major cities as well as overseas. The National Salvation Association's ideas of "uniting to resist aggression" and "stopping the civil war and resisting Japan and saving the nation" became the common demand and unanimous call of people from all walks of life across the country at that time, and won the sympathy and support of some Kuomintang soldiers. Mr. Shen Junru has always been at the forefront of the struggle and has been persecuted by the Kuomintang authorities. He was arrested and imprisoned again in November 1936. He is one of the famous "Seven Gentlemen". After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the civil war crisis threatened China again. Shen Junru once again devoted himself to the struggle against civil war and for peace and democracy. In October 1945, the National Salvation Association held a meeting in Chongqing and changed its name to the "China People's National Salvation Association." Mr Shen Junru was elected chairman. Under his leadership, the National Salvation Association made important contributions to the complete destruction of the reactionary authoritarian government in Nanjing and the complete realization of a democratic, peaceful and independent New China. Later, he founded and led the China Democratic League. In 1947, he represented the China Democratic League and the China People's National Salvation Association and went to the Jiefang District to participate in the preparations for the China People's Political Consultative Conference. After the founding of New China, Mr. Shen Junru served as a member of the Central People's Government, President of the Supreme People's Court, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic League, Vice Chairman of the International Association of Democratic Legal Workers, etc., making great contributions to the establishment of the people's legal system and the consolidation of the people's democratic dictatorship. Mr. Shen Junru passed away due to illness in 1963 at the age of 88. Peng Zigang, a former famous journalist for Ta Kung Pao, interviewed Mr. Shen Junru in Chongqing in 1940.
