On March 4, 2005 (January 24, 2005 in the lunar calendar), Hu Jintao put forward four suggestions in Beijing on developing cross-Strait relations under the new situation. On March 4, Hu Jintao visited members of the Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee, the Taiwan League, and the Taiwan Federation who attended the Third Session of the Tenth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. On March 4, 2005, Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and President of the People's Political Consultative Conference, proposed in Beijing four points on developing cross-strait relations under the new situation, namely: (1) We will never waver in adhering to the China principle;2) We will never give up our efforts for peaceful reunification;(3) We will never change the policy of placing our hopes on the people of Taiwan; (4)We will never compromise on opposing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities. On March 14, the Third Session of the Tenth National People's Congress passed the Anti-Secession Law with a high vote. From April to July, China's Kuomintang, People First Party, and New Party successively organized groups to visit the mainland. General Secretary Hu Jintao had an extensive and in-depth exchange of views with Chairman Lien Chan, Chairman James Soong, and Chairman Yu Muming on major issues of promoting the improvement and development of cross-Strait relations, reached broad consensus, and achieved important results.
