In April 1935, he served as a member of the Southwest Fujian Military and Political Committee and commander (detachment leader) of the Fourth Military Subdivision (also known as the Hangdai Detachment). In the spring of 1936, he served as political commissar of the Second Guerrilla Warfare Division of the Southwest Fujian Anti-Japanese War and was later renamed the Second Column of Southwest Fujian. During the War of Liberation, he successively served as director of the Political Department of the Seventh Column of the Central China Field Army and deputy political commissar of the Seventh Column of the East China Field Army. In January 1949, he was appointed as political commissar of the 25th Army of the Third Field Army, and in August, he was appointed as political commissar of the 29th Army. He led his troops to participate in many important battles to liberate East China. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served successively as the 10th Corps of the People's Liberation Army and Director of the Political Department of the Fujian Military Region, Director of the Xiamen Military Control Commission, Second Political Commissar of the Jiangsu Military Region, President of the Military Procuratorate of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army, Deputy Procurator-General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate of the People's Republic of China and President of the Military Procuratorate and Director of the Political Department directly under the Central Military Commission. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General and the Second Class Eighth Medal, the First Class Order of Independence and Freedom, and the First Class Liberation Medal. He was elected as a representative to the Third National People's Congress. He died in Beijing on April 27, 1971 due to illness.
