The general's tenure was from 1521 (December 25, the first year of Oinaga) to 1546 (December 20, the fifth year of Astronomical Studies). He was the 12th general of the Muromachi Shogun and the eldest son of the 11th general of Ashikaga Yoshikaru. His mother was the daughter of Nagoshi Hino and the nephew of Tomiko Hino. In the sixth year of Dayinaga (1526), Xiang Xiumi-tomi, a retainer of the Hosokawa Gaoguo, was killed, resulting in internal disputes among the Hosokawa family. Hosokawa Harumoto supported Yoshiharu's younger brother Yoshiki Ashikaga. In the seventh year of Dayinaga (1527), after Taokuo Hosokawa was defeated in the Battle of Guigawa, Yoshiharu Ashikaga went to Omi-Sakamoto Castle. The real power of the shogunate was controlled by the three good Yuan chiefs of the Abo people, who supported and established the Jie Gong Fang Ashikari Yiwei and Yiqing opposing each other. The following year, he failed to negotiate peace with Harumoto Hosokawa, and moved to Suigi that same year. In the fourth year of Konro (1531), Takako Hosokawa died after being defeated at the Battle of Tennoji. After the war, Harumoto Hosokawa and Miyoshi were opposed. Qingyuan abolished Jiegong Fang after receiving assistance from Honganji Temple, and Sanhao Yuan Chief died in the same year. In the third year of Astronomy (1534), with the support of his father and son Tadorori Hukakuo and Yoshiken Hukuo, Yoshiharu Ashikaga was able to return to Kyoto. However, the general's authority disappeared and the general became a puppet. In the 15th year of Astronomy (1546), the position of general was transferred to his son Yoshihiro Ashikaga.
