On this day, 86 years ago, on May 4, 1939 (March 15, 1939, the 1939 lunar calendar), China Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region stipulated that May 4 was the China Youth Day. On May 4, 1939, Mao Zedong attended the Yan 'an Youth Conference commemorating the 20th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement and delivered a speech entitled "The Direction of the Youth Movement." The speech explained the object, main body, nature and purpose of China's revolution, using the concept of "people's democratic revolution" with the same meaning as the new democratic revolution. Mao Zedong demanded that China's educated youth and students must go among the workers and peasants and mobilize and organize them, who account for 90% of the country's population. Today, Chongqing's Xinhua Daily published an editorial: "Carry forward the Spirit of the May Fourth Plan", calling on young people to join the workers, peasants and soldiers and engage in various publicity, education, and cultural work. At the same time, the second issue of Volume 1 of "China Youth" published a joint declaration by the Joint Office of the Chinese Youth Salvation Groups, the Chinese National Liberation Vanguard, and the Northwest Youth Salvation Federation to commemorate China Youth Day. The Yan 'an Northwest Youth National Salvation Association designated this day as Youth Day. On the same day, the Kuomintang also designated this day as the first Youth Day.
