On May 4, 1949, the National Youth Federation of China was founded. On May 4, 1949, the First National Youth Congress of China was held in Beijing, marking the great unity of young people from all walks of life. 552 delegates attended the congress, who represented all regions, different professions, different ethnicities, different classes, different parties, different beliefs and youth workers. Mao Zedong, as the theme of the congress, called for "unification of young people from all walks of life and participation in the construction of new democracy." This congress officially announced the birth of the National Youth Union and elected the first committee of the National Democratic Youth Federation of China, and elected Xi Jinping as chairman of the First National Youth Union Committee, and also passed the Constitution of the National Youth Union.
