55 years ago today, January 18, 1970 (December 11, 1969 in the lunar calendar), Edward Heath, leader of the British Conservative Party, became Prime Minister. Heath met with female Conservative MPs. Among those present was Margaret Thatcher (first from left), the only female member of Heath's cabinet and appointed Secretary of State for Education and Science.
