107 years ago today, May 4, 1918 (March 24, 1918, the lunar calendar), was the birthday of Japanese Prime Minister Tanaka Kakuei. Tanaka was with his only legitimate child, Makiko Tanaka Kakuei, born on May 4, 1918. He came to Tokyo to make a living at the age of 16 and worked as an apprentice, clerk and trainee journalist. In 1936, he graduated from Tokyo Chuo Institute of Technology with civil engineering. In 1937, Kyoei Architectural Office was founded in Tokyo. Conscript into the army during World War II and stationed in Heilongjiang, China. In 1940, he was sent back to Japan for treatment due to a serious illness. Retired in 1941. In December 1943, Tanaka Civil Construction Industry Co., Ltd. was founded and served as general manager. Later, the company became one of the 50 largest construction companies in Japan. Due to the surge in real estate prices after the war, it quickly became rich. He has been elected to the House of Representatives continuously since 1947. In 1948, he served as Deputy Parliamentary Officer of the Ministry of Justice in the second Yoshida Cabinet. He resigned in connection with corruption, was arrested by the U.S. occupation authorities, and was acquitted two and a half years later. In December 1950, he served as general manager of Nagaoka Railway Company. In 1953, he served as a director of Riyan Chemical Company. In 1954, he served as deputy secretary-general of the Liberal Party. In 1955, the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party merged to form the Liberal Democratic Party and then served as chairman of the House Commerce and Industry Committee. In 1957, he served as Postmaster Minister of Nobusuke Kishi Cabinet. In 1961, he served as chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party's government investigation. Since July 1962, he has served as Minister of Finance in Ikeda's Cabinet. In November 1964, he served as Minister of Finance and Finance in the Sato Cabinet. In 1965, he served as secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party. Since July 1971, he has served as Minister of Trade and Industry in Sato's Cabinet. In July 1972, he was elected president of the Liberal Democratic Party and formed the Cabinet of Kakuei Tanaka and served as Prime Minister. In November 1974, he was forced to resign as Prime Minister and President of the Liberal Democratic Party on suspicion of bribery at Lockheed. He was arrested on July 27, 1976 and later released on bail. He is the leader of the Tanaka faction of the Liberal Democratic Party. Since being suspected, he announced his withdrawal from the Liberal Democratic Party, but the Tanaka faction still ranks first among all factions in the Liberal Democratic Party. On October 12, 1983, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison and fined 500 million yen by the Tokyo District Court. Tanaka refused to accept the verdict and filed an appeal. In the December 1983 House election, Tanaka remained elected as a non-partisan candidate. He retired from politics in 1989 and lived in seclusion at home. He died of illness in December 1993. In February 1995, he was finally convicted by the Japanese High Court of bribery, and the Lockheed case, which had been tried for 19 years, finally ended. Tanaka is with his mother. His mother often said to Tanaka: "Kakuei, stop talking big! Senior officials and politicians pay New Year greetings to Tanaka and watch fish at home.
