On January 27, 2010 (December 13, 2009 in the lunar calendar), the State Council established the National Energy Commission. On January 27, 2010, the General Office of the State Council recently issued a notice. In accordance with the institutional reform plan of the State Council reviewed and approved by the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress and the "Notice of the State Council on the Establishment of Deliberation and Coordination Agencies"(Guo Fa [2008] No. 13), in order to strengthen energy strategic decision-making and overall coordination, the State Council decided to establish the National Energy Commission, with Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council serving as the director. The main responsibilities of the National Energy Commission are to study and formulate national energy development strategies, review major issues in energy security and energy development, and coordinate major issues in domestic energy development and international energy cooperation.
