On April 16, 2002 (March 4, 2002 in the lunar calendar), the third annual meeting of the Peace Association opened and adopted the Chongqing Declaration. On the afternoon of April 16, 2002, the third annual meeting of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and closed at the Great Hall of the People in Chongqing on April 19. More than 400 representatives from 39 Asian countries attended the meeting. During the meeting, parliamentary leaders and members of participating countries, in accordance with the purpose of the association and the theme of this annual meeting, discussed issues such as multipolarity and world peace, globalization and developing countries, strengthening international cooperation, and establishing a new international political and economic order. There was an extensive and in-depth exchange of views and a series of important consensuses. The meeting heard a report from Xu Dunxin, rapporteur of the drafting committee of the Chongqing Declaration of the Association for Asian Parliaments for Peace and a member of the delegation of the National People's Congress of China, on the drafting and main contents of the declaration. Based on the principle of consensus, parliamentary leaders and members of the participating countries warmly applauded and adopted this important document, which reflects the views and propositions of Asian countries on peace and development. The Chongqing Declaration of the Asian Parliaments Association for Peace pointed out that peace and development are the themes of the times. Entering the new century, the two major trends of world multipolarity and economic globalization continue to develop, but the world and Asian situation still face many challenges. Countries should fully respect the reality of diversity, seek diversified development, and take more solid steps on the road of regional cooperation, unity and mutual assistance. The democratization of the international community is an important guarantee for achieving world peace. The internal affairs of each country should be decided by its own people, and international affairs should be resolved through equal consultation among the people of all countries. The international community should work together to narrow the gap between developing and developed countries, reduce the number of people living in poverty, and benefit all countries in the world equally. In accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter, efforts should be made to establish a new security concept with mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and cooperation as the core, seek security through mutual trust, seek cooperation through mutual benefit, and jointly solve urgent problems facing the international community.
