On this day, 72 years ago, January 18, 1953 (December 4, 1952, the lunar calendar), British and American physicists collaborated to reveal the chemical structure of nucleic acids. On January 18, 1953, a young British physicist Crick and a young American biochemist Watson collaborated to reveal the chemical structure of nucleic acids at the Cavendish Laboratory in Cambridge, England. They proposed a double helix model of the molecular structure of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), known as the famous "Watson-Crick model." This achievement was later praised as "the greatest discovery in biology of the 20th century" and "the decisive breakthrough in biology" and was regarded as a symbol of the birth of molecular biology.
