King Louis XV of France died on May 10, 1774
251 years ago today, on May 10, 1774 (April 1, 1774 in the lunar calendar), King Louis XV of France passed away. Louis XV (February 15, 1710-May 10, 1774)(245 years ago), known as the beloved, ruled as King of France from 1715 to 1774. Louis XV ascended the throne at the age of 5, but Philip II, Duke of Orleans, was the regent at the time. He magically continued his entire dying family and was loved by the French people in his early years in office. However, his inability to reform the French monarchy and his policy of appeasement in Europe cost him the support of the people. And after his death he became one of France's most unpopular kings. In the later period of his administration, court life was corrupt, and the economic problems of Louis XIV's period were not well resolved. Although he survived a disaster as a child, he ultimately failed to escape the torture of the disease and died of smallpox on May 10, 1774.
