On this day, 78 years ago, July 1, 1947 (May 13, 1947 in the lunar calendar), the Northeast Democratic Alliance Army turned into a counterattack. The People's Liberation Army broke through Siping Street's first line of defense to defend the enemy and charged in depth. On July 1, 1947, the 50-day summer offensive of the Northeast Democratic Alliance of the Communist Party of China ended. A total of more than 80,000 Kuomintang troops were wiped out and 42 towns were captured, forcing the Kuomintang army to shrink into defense along the Changchun to Dashiqiao and Shenyang to Shanhaiguan railways. The offensive was launched in accordance with the "Resolution on the Current Situation and Tasks in Northeast China" of the Northeast Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on May 5. In accordance with this resolution, the Northeast Democratic Alliance launched the summer offensive on May 13. The offensive was divided into two stages: the first stage was from May 13 to June 3. After more than 20 days of fighting, Huaide, Meihekou, Wula Street and other places were successively captured, communicating the connection between East Manchuria, West Manchuria, South Manchuria and North Manchuria. June 11 to today is the second phase of the offensive. The Northeast Democratic Alliance launched an attack on the Kuomintang troops guarding Siping, but later changed to a feint attack to attack reinforcements and withdrew today.
