On May 2, 1933, Hitler dissolved all trade unions
92 years ago today, on May 2, 1933 (April 8, 1933 in the lunar calendar), Hitler dissolved all trade unions. On May 2, 1933, Nazi stormtroopers raided German trade union offices, arrested union leaders, and confiscated union property. Nazi leaders said the trade union itself would not be banned, but would be restructured under Nazi guidance. The sweep was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Ley, Chairman of the New Prussian Parliament. "Today's Marxism pretends to be silent," Ley claimed,"but it has not been completely eradicated. But the actual target of this sweep was not Marxists, but Socialists who relied on the power of trade unions to fight the Nazis.
