On this day, 67 years ago, on February 12, 1958 (December 24, 1957 in the lunar calendar), the central government called on the whole country to "eliminate the four pests." Cars delivering "spoils of elimination of the four pests" to the exhibition On February 12, 1958, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the "Instructions on Eliminating the Four Peasants and Educating Hygiene." The "Directive" proposes to complete the task of eliminating flies, mosquitoes, mice, and sparrows in 10 years or less (later changed from "sparrow" to "bug"), so that our people can turn sick and weak into strong, and turn backward into advanced. 1958 was the first year of the country's major march against the four pests and diseases. All grassroots units are inspected and evaluated once a week, major units are inspected and evaluated once a month, and inspected and evaluated once at the end of the year. After the instructions were issued, a nationwide campaign to eliminate the "four evils" was launched.
