64 years ago today, on April 27, 1961 (March 13, 1961, the lunar calendar), China Ocean Shipping Corporation was established. Our country is a country with vast seas, and the Chinese nation's maritime history is praised by people around the world. However, when New China was founded, foreign shipping was almost blank. Developing China's maritime industry is an important part of revitalizing China. Therefore, the older generation of leaders have shown special concern and support for my country's ocean shipping industry. In the mid-1950s, Chairman Mao Zedong put forward the idea of forming and developing China's ocean shipping fleet. Li Fuchun, Li Xiannian, Ye Jianying, as well as relevant leaders of the State Council and generals of the three armed forces at that time, all gave important instructions on how to form China's ocean-going fleet. On April 27, 1961, New China established the first marine transportation enterprise-China Ocean Shipping Corporation. The next day, the "Guanghua" ship set off with the deep affection and kindness of the China people, opening a new page in the history of China's ocean shipping. When Marshal Chen Yi visited the Guanghua ship in 1964, he improvised a poem "Red on the River", which wrote: "When the Ming Dynasty has thousands of ships, it will be even more magnificent." It fully expressed his infinite hope for my country's shipping industry. However, the development path of China Ocean Shipping Corporation has not been smooth sailing, and it has also experienced an era of hard work. In the early days of its establishment, the company had only 4 small boats with a payload of 220,000 tons and only 627 employees. Since the country was unable to invest heavily in the ocean-going fleet at that time, it was agreed that COSCO would use domestic and foreign loans to develop the ocean-going fleet on the basis of a certain proportion of national investment. Since then, COSCO has gradually embarked on a development path of independent operation, self-accumulation, self-transformation and self-restraint. Under the guidance of Premier Zhou's policy of "insisting on simultaneous purchase and manufacturing to benefit our ocean shipping industry", COSCO has achieved achievements that have attracted the attention of its peers in the international shipping industry: from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, COSCO seized the opportunity to use loans to buy large quantities of ships abroad and build ships at home. In 1975, the total deadweight tonnage of the fleet exceeded the 5 million tons mark. During this period, it grew rapidly by a huge figure of nearly one million tons per year. In the 1980s, international shipping faced a serious crisis. Nearly one-third of the world's merchant ships were idle, but COSCO was full of vitality and vitality due to my country's reform and opening up policy. In the past 10 years, with little investment from the country, COSCO's fleet capacity has increased by two-thirds, and its cargo volume and turnover have doubled. In order to develop my country's ocean shipping industry faster and better, in early 1993, the State Council approved the establishment of China Ocean Shipping Group Corporation based on China Ocean Shipping Corporation. This was one of the first batch of large-scale enterprise groups in my country. In 1995, China Ocean Shipping Group Corporation went to a higher level. It not only owned the fourth-generation large container ship with 3800TEU slots represented by the "Zhenhe", but also established a multi-functional and well-diversified hybrid fleet. There are more than 600 ocean transport ships of various types, with a payload of 15 million tons and an annual cargo volume of hundreds of millions of tons. COSCO Group ranks among the top four shipping companies in the world with its comprehensive strength and plays a pivotal role in world shipping. Now, as this fleet sails between more than 1100 ports in more than 150 countries and regions around the world, the dense routes are like bonds of friendship that connect China and the world and convey the deep affection and kindness of the China people to the people of the world.
