On October 24, 2007 (September 14, 2007 in the lunar calendar), the Chang'e-1 lunar exploration satellite was successfully launched. Chang'e-1 is China's first artificial satellite orbiting the moon. Named after Chang'e, the ancient mythical figure of China. At 18:05 on October 24, 2007 (8:00 UTC, the same below), it was successfully launched into space on the Long March 3A carrier rocket at the Xichang Satellite Launch Center. The total weight of the satellite is about 2350 kilograms, the size is 2000 mm ×1720 mm ×2200 mm. The deployment length of the solar cell panels is 18 meters and the life span is more than one year. The main detection goals of the satellite are: to obtain three-dimensional images of the lunar surface; to analyze the content of useful elements and the distribution characteristics of material types on the lunar surface; and to detect the thickness of the lunar soil and the space environment from the Earth to the moon. Chang'e-1 is the first phase of China's Chang'e Project. Since its establishment in January 2004, the first phase has cost 1.4 billion yuan.
